Guide to Central Park: Year-Round Fun at Manhattan's Playground

Central Park is one of the most famous parks in all of the United States. Located in Manhattan, one of the most populated and visited areas in the country, the park has over 42 million visitors every year. It is a must see for any tourist and a great place for locals to go as well.

For Families

The Central Park Zoo

The Zoo has animals from the tropical, temperate, and polar zones from all over the world. They have incorporated the limestone reliefs into the new buildings combining the old and the new. If you have smaller children then you will love the Tisch Children's Zoo. It features many animals that children can pet and feed as well at interactive statues that make animal noises when touched. If you are visiting the zoo in the spring or Christmas/New Years season be sure to see the George Delacorte Musical Clock on the hour or half-hour to hear a special tune just for that season.

Playgrounds

There are many playgrounds located throughout Central Park. Check out this map to find the locations of each playground as well as other activities throughout the park. It can also be downloaded to your smartphone for easy access. There are playgrounds for even your smallest family member or friend like the Tarr-Coyne Tots playground. There are themed playgrounds such as the Ancient Playground and the Tarr-Coyne Wild West Playground. The James Michael Levin Playground is great during the summer. Let your kids splash and play all while keeping cool.

The Carousel

Equipped with 57 horses, the carousel in Central Park is one of the most famous attractions. Your kids will love this!

Winter Fun

When the park is covered in snow it becomes a winter playground. Sledding, skiing, and snowshoeing are all very popular in the winter.

Refreshments

Food Carts

There are assorted food carts all around the park. Vendors will sell everything from hot dogs to popsicles. The selection will change depending on the season and weather so you will want to think about that ahead of time.

Ballplayers' House Refreshments

They serve salads, sandwiches, and burgers that are always a favorite. They are located on the north end of Heckscher Ballfields.

Dancing Crane Café

This cafe is open for visitors of both the zoo and the park. They serve snacks and drinks as well as meals year round.

For Nature Lovers

The Conservatory Garden

The garden is 6 acres but is split into 3 sections. One is styled Italian, the second is a French style, and the third is an English style.

Conservatory Water

This is a great place to visit in the spring and summer. You can sail model boats or watch as others do. It is relaxing and great for people of all ages.
